My wife Jennifer and I own a small farm in Northeastern Ohio. We grow all our produce with draft animal power and spread all our manure the same. We love the Suffolk horse because it is truly the only breed originally developed for farming

I raised a team of half Belgians, '86 - '05, which I broke and used to mow and rake hay with. Also raised Fjords, '93 - '05, also broke a team of those to mow hay with. In '18 got married to a Mt. woman that was into horses so I got back into them also.
As of May 18 2021, We now have our team of Suffolk mares that are going to need a lot of work to get them into shape for mowing hay and other field work. They are now bred, thanks to Brad Busch for the use of a stud, so we should have a couple foals next year.

Our farm is in the northeast corner of Ohio. After farming with Percheron horses for over 30 years, in January of 2020, we switched to Suffolk Punch horses. I wonder why we waited so long!
My son and some dear friends, helped me with my decision to make the switch. Counting a pair of full sisters in my son's barn, we currently have six Suffolk horses here on our farm. Stay tuned for more updates and conversations regarding these amazing, well minded, tough horses and our experiences with them.
I am a regular contributor to Rural Heritage magazine. In cooperation with Rural Heritage magazine, we have made several videos for RFD-TV. Many of these can now be seen on YouTube. I look forward to promoting the Suffolk Punch breed here on my farm as well as around the world, using every means available to me.

I presently own a Registered Suffolk Punch mare who has raised 3 handsome colts for me.
I started her to work under harness and saddle. She is used for farming, logging, pleasure driving and riding as well as breeding. She has been pinned Champion Mare at the North American Suffolk Punch Spectacular in both 2018 and 2019.
I have also handled multiple stallions for presentation before judges and was fortunate to be handling the 2019 Champion Stallion at the Spectacular as well.
I hope to continue to breed, raise and start many more Suffolks in the future alongside my family. I plan to also contribute to the interest in this breed by presenting them in multiple disciplines in the public eye for years to come.
This is not my first membership with ASHA and am renewing membership in hopes to both represent and have the support of the association.

We have been members of the ASHA since 1989. We purchased our first mare and stallion that same year. We have had over 60 foals on our farm and continue to this day breeding our Suffolks. We have sold horses all over the United States and Canada. We work our horses on the farm plowing, discing, draging, culitvating and planting. We have approxiamtely 80 acres and use both tractor and horses for our farming. We have showed our horses at county fairs, given rides for festivals, weddings, and Don has entered many plowing competition also. We showed our 2 yrs old mare Mill Road Meghan at the Royal Winter fair in 2000 . Now we have our grandson Dominic Button working with us and he enjoys the horses as much as we do. It is so nice to have young people who are interested in learning about our breed and learning how work the farm with horses.

We have 2 horses, a quarter horse Ace, and Lady Catherine our Suffolk mare.

Our Suffolk mare drives single, we have a cart and a bob sled she pulls along with skidding out firewood.
What a great disposition and personality the Suffolk's have.

we are on 11 acres of mixed land

I was born into horses, as my parents raised American Quarter Horses both for showing and racing. I got my first pony when I was 7. I've ridden and shown Hunters with my first QH and then my TB. I took up breakaway roping in 2003, and bought my current QH. We no longer rope, and he's semi-retired now at 21yrs old. I've always had a special soft spot for draft breeds and discovered the Suffolk Punch sort of by accident. I fell head over heels for them. I've decided I NEED to have one as my next riding partner, hopefully in the not too distant future.
